Revenue for the VR and augmented reality market is projected to grow from $5.2 billion in 2016 to more than $162 billion in 2020 — and cam girls, who perform live for viewers at home, are helping drive that technological revolution forward according to market research covered by Inverse. That's enough digits to get any cam model excited, and quotes like this one have webcam platform owners also taking notice: "“With VR quickly becoming the latest trend, and sex toys becoming more virtual, it’s a logical step forward,” a cam model who goes by the name housewifeswag told Inverse. “I feel like it will create an additional element, but I don’t think it will change much. At least not until much later when VR is readily available to everyone at an affordable price.”

Terpon is filling that need by answering the pricing question is a monthly rental cost that is far less than the value of the cameras. Terpon’s Hermes camera provides a 3K (1500x1500 resolution per eye) video stream, broadcasting images at 30 FPS, a rate that’s faster than most movies, leading to more realistic images at just $29.99 per month. The Artemis is even more high-end, featuring 4K resolution and requiring a 20 mbps internet connection and it still planned to cost significantly less than mainstream hardware competitors.

How can Terpon offer the best cameras for so much less than everyone else is charging? Fubar asked Terpon CEO Jean-Claude Artonne for a full explanation. "Terpon has a long term vision for VR in adult and beyond" said Artonne. "We are rolling out a low monthly rental price because the technology will change rapidly and models will need to upgrade frequently. Instead of making models buy new camears and throw away the old ones like Apple did with the first generation of iPhones, we will be sending FREE upgrades and replacement cameras at zero cost (including the shipping), to make sure our cameras are always the best ones available. We have invested millions in our technology already and are not trying to make pennies on each camera we sell. Our goal is to grow the market, establish our brand and earn the trust of our customer base. We see many ways to monetize our effort, including an affiliate program cam models can profit from by selling headsets to their fans, and a much larger global footprint for our products in the future as we work together with models and site owners to grow the entire pie for everyone. When the pie gets much larger, it's not so important for us to get the biggest slice - what matters most that everyone we work with will have plenty to eat."

The move toward VR for many companies is happening right now as deals get announced on a weakly basis and industry events are highlighting then new technologies available. As a mattter of fact, "I moderated a major VR panel at Internext Vegas for AVN, an Amterdam panel last year and one in Prague as well" said Stewart Tongue of EngineFood.com "I'm now working with several VR companies, and having been through the tube era, the mobile era, and seeing the adapt or die mentality required to suceed in this business first hand - I can tell you that VR is here to stay and now is the time to get in... and just like past eras, this one is thanks largerly to companies like Terpon, VRBangersYanksVR, Utherverse, RealityLovers, WankzVR and the others who are investing time, effort and money into building a massive opportunity for anyone in adult who happens to be paying attention. Look around... if you missed out on the last era, and you are still on the VR sidelines... you are likely making that same mistake all over again."
